The 2024 Formula 1 season has proved one to forget for Red Bull driver Sergio Perez. After 23 rounds, he has managed to amass only 152 points in comparison to his teammate Max Verstappen‘s 429 alongside nine wins and 14 podiums.

Going into the Abu Dhabi GP weekend, Red Bull is pretty much out of contention for the constructors’ championship. In light of this, Sergio Perez has taken responsibility for not pulling his weight in the title tussle.

McLaren is leading the championship with 640 points and Ferrari is in close second with 619. However, because of Perez’s consistent woes, Red Bull has so far amassed only 581 points with only one race remaining. Ahead of today’s FP1, Perez was asked to dwell on the same, and he had the following to add.

Of course, I take responsibility, but also I don’t feel it’s fully all down to one person. I’m obviously part of a big organization, a big team, and it’s very unfortunate that we did not fight any harder for the Constructors.

Amidst all the noise, Perez has remained firm in his stance of racing for the Miton-Keynes-based team in 2025.

Nothing has changed since before, in terms of what I’ve said for the entire year: I’ve got a contract for next year, and I will be driving for Red Bull next year.

RB juniors Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson have been tipped by many as the favorites to secure the 2025 seat alongside Verstappen at Red Bull. The young duo has put in way better performances in the 2024 season as compared to Perez.

The 34-year-old is determined to continue with the Milton-Keynes team, but it seems very tough. Keeping this in view everything that has been discussed, Perez will have to pull off a sensational performance in Abu Dhabi to have any chance of continuing with Max Verstappen and Co. in the coming years. Going into the final race, there are quite a few storylines, and one of the most prominent ones is that of Perez.
