Formula 1 is a global sport. In recent years, the pinnacle of motorsport has expanded across the world with new races in countries such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the US now has three races on the F1 calendar. Now, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has admitted that some European races will be rotated in the future to make way for the new additions.

The 2024 F1 season has a record number of rounds at 24. This leaves virtually no room for more races without sacrificing existing venues. Stefano Domenicali has now affirmed that F1 will soon be sharing information about rotational European GP, hosted on different tracks every year.

We have some news to share very, very soon with regard to the possibility in the mid-term to have some rotational European Grand Prix and some other new options coming later.

Many new venues have expressed interest in hosting a Formula 1 race in the future. Lewis Hamilton has been persistent about the sport returning to Africa in the near future. Domenicali mentioned that F1 must find the right balance in scheduling new races while retaining the economic benefits. This would allow the pinnacle of motorsport to grow in new markets.

Our choice will always be balanced between the right economical benefits that we can have as a system and also to leverage the growth on the market that we can see potential that will be beneficial for us to grow even further our business.

Stefano Domenicali explained

F1 to not exceed 24 races in the future

THE 24-race calendar had faced backlash from many in the paddock. Max Verstappen even hinted that he won’t stay in the sport for long due to such a busy schedule. Stefano Domenicali has now asserted that F1 believes that the current number of races is the perfect fit for the sport. As such, the sport will not be expanding the number of rounds at least for the foreseeable future.

We believe that the balance we have in terms of numbers is the right one, so 24 is the balanced number that we feel is right.

Stefano Domenicali added

Certainly, fans will have mixed reactions to rotational races in Europe. European circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps and Monza are some of the most iconic tracks in the world of racing. As such, it would be sad to see traditional circuits being put on rotation to make way for potentially more street races in the future.
