Lewis Hamilton announced his switch to Scuderia Ferrari for 2025 even before the start of last season. The British driver seemed confident in Maranello’s prospects compared to Mercedes. Now, F1 presenter Ted Kravitz has questioned the early decision made by the seven-time world champion.

Kravitz highlighted that Hamilton made the call to leave the Silver Arrows after over a decade even before he tested the 2024 car. The 50-year-old was perplexed to see the 40-year-old already consider Ferrari to be the better place for the remainder of his career.

But did Lewis know when he decided over the winter, ‘Do you know what, we haven’t even turned a wheel in testing yet but I don’t think Mercedes is the place to be – I’m going to go at Ferrari’?

The seven-time world champion did label this move as a leap of faith recently. Kravitz questioned whether Lewis Hamilton really did make his decision in the dark without knowing how the Scuderia will fare in comparison to his previous team. Luckily for Hamilton, he was not wrong as the Silver Arrow seem to be in a more difficult position.

Was that just a leap in the dark for you? Because it turned out to be absolutely true. Look at Mercedes. They’ve been a bit lost.

Ex-F1 driver asserts Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari switch a ‘punt’

Former F1 driver Karun Chandhok weighed in on Kravitz’s remarks. The Indian driver insisted that only Lewis Hamilton will be able to give a definitive answer to his colleague’s questions. Though, Chandhok reckoned that the F1 star did make a ‘punt’ of a call as he would not have known how rivals were doing in terms of car development.

I think only he can answer that question. I think it was a punt, because how could you tell what the opposition were doing?

Karun Chandhok replied

Nevertheless, Lewis Hamilton did make the right call. The British driver seems to be rejuvenated with his new team compared to his past two seasons at Mercedes. Hamilton will be aiming to make a mark at Maranello from the first round of the season in Melbourne. The Tifosi would be rallying behind the seven-time world champion.
