(Video) Toto Wolff insists Lewis Hamilton’ Ferrari switch not the end of their ’emotional’ friendship

Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton have been pushing Mercedes together since 2013. Their iconic partnership is set to end after the ongoing campaign, and amidst this, the latter has recently taken the time to shed light on his emotional bond with the Brit.
Lewis Hamilton is the most successful driver in Mercedes’ and F1’s history. Moreover, he has amassed six of his seven drivers’ world championships with the Brackley-based team.
With Hamilton moving to Ferrari in 2025, Toto Wolff has asserted that the former’s Mercedes departure is not the end of their emotional bond. On a podcast, Wolff was asked to dwell on the upcoming Hamilton departure and the conversation went like this:
Podcast host: So we’re very close now to you standing in the garage in Abu Dhabi, watching Lewis say his farewells, I wonder what, what you will quietly be thinking to yourself at the moment?

Wolff: Lewis and I are going through the emotions already since a while.
Podcast host: Really?
Wolff: Yeah, Yeah!
Podcast host: Like what?
Wolff: Like, we need to remind ourself that this not the end of our friendship and we are doing it both ways.

Looking at the reaction of the Mercedes boss, it is quite clear that come 2025, nothing is going to change between him and Hamilton. Their bond is extremely strong and is going to remain that way despite Hamilton repping the iconic Red gear of Ferrari.
Lewis Hamilton is coming to Ferrari to ‘win and not on holiday’
While Toto Wolff is preparing himself for Lewis Hamilton’s upcoming departure, the Ferrari F1 team is eager to welcome the latter. Fred Vasseur has recently also emphasized that the Brit is coming to Ferrari with the mission to win as much as possible.
Hamilton will partner up with the prolific Charles Leclerc next year.
Ferrari has always been in his thoughts in some ways and now the stars have aligned. But he comes to win, not on vacation. And I’m convinced that we have everything to try.

The 2024 F1 season has only three Grand Prix remaining on the calendar. Mercedes is in a no man’s land (fourth place) but Ferrari is very much in the fight for the constructors’ championship. Keeping this in view, Hamilton deep down in his heart, will be rooting for the Maranello-based team in the upcoming races.
