Lewis Hamilton has raced for Mercedes since the 2013 F1 season. Over this period, the Briton has won six titles with the team. However, Hamilton will leave the Silver Arrows to join Ferrari at the end of this year. Now, Toto Wolff has shed light on the team’s challenge for the final leg of the season.
The seven-time world champion had a disastrous outing at the US GP and was forced to retire the car. Wolff admitted that things did not go as planned in Austin. The Austrian billionaire emphasized that the Silver Arrows have the opportunity to turn things around in Mexico this weekend.
Toto Wolff claimed that the Mercedes W15 showed inherent performance last weekend. However, the Mercedes boss admitted that the challenge remains to extract that pace out of the car in the last five races of the year.
Mercedes to run ‘maximum downforce’ at Mexico GP
The Mexico GP is one of the most challenging races on the F1 car. The circuit is located at over 2200 meters above sea level, making it the highest track on the calendar. Subsequently, Toto Wolff revealed that the power units need to work harder at the race, with Mercedes opting for the maximum downforce set up due to thin air.
Certainly, Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes would be looking to have a positive result in Mexico City. The seven-time world champion wants to end his journey with the Silver Arrows on a high note. However, it remains to be seen if Hamilton is able to get pace out of the W15 this weekend.
