Mercedes has demonstrated remarkable performance, securing three Grand Prix victories recently and showcasing their dominance with impressive results on track. The Brackley-based squad, initially struggled to bring the performance and was trailing way behind the race leaders. However, as the season progressed towards the race in Canada, where the Silver Arrows brought effective upgrades. The team started to reach new heights in the season. Despite a recent performance surge, team boss Toto Wolff claims their expectations are not to finish in the first place.
In a recent interview Toto Wolff appreciated the team’s effort, because compared to the start of the season they have built a car that can score points consistently. With the help of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell it has become even easier for the team. However, Wolff reckoned the team still needed to make further improvement. This would ensure they can compete for the top position and win races consistently every weekend.
The difference compared to the start of the season is that we have a car that can score important points every week. We also have two top-level drivers who are capable of doing so. Toto Wolff mentioned that the competition between top four is very high and exciting now. He emphasized Mercedes will put their maximum efforts to win more races in the second half of the season. Despite having the needed pace, Wolff stated the team’s goal is to finish in top three in both Drivers’ and Constructors’ championship. Instead of hoping to win the championship, the 52-year-old stayed grounded because the team was still improving and did not know the outcome. Therefore, they aimed to finish in the top three by the end of the season.

Toto Wolff states Mercedes ‘motivated’ by progress in 2024
Toto Wolff explained, the W15 improvements during the season had two major benefits for the team. The first, that the car’s performance got better which was a positive change. The second was, these improvements confirmed that the team was following the right approach. This resulted in them feeling relaxed and motivated at the same time. Mercedes knew what level of performance they needed to achieve on the track. Wolff acknowledged and appreciated the factory team, who have put in a lot of hard work to meet those expectations.
