Mercedes’ highly disappointing form in the ground-effect era has continued in 2024. Brackley is currently in the fourth spot in the constructors championship with virtually no hopes of a late-season comeback. Additionally, the team continues to commit errors such as Lewis Hamilton‘s radio miscommunication at Monaco GP. Regardless, Toto Wolff believes that the team is trying its best for Hamilton’s final year at Brackley.
Lewis Hamilton‘s radio miscommunication at the Monaco GP caused him a slow out lap after pitting and caused him to lose time. Toto Wolff had commented before the race that Mercedes was trying to keep both drivers at the same level. Brackley aimed to give both the drivers the best possible cars and strategies during a race.
As a team we are 100% on a mission of giving the two drivers two great cars, the best possible cars and best possible strategies and support.Toto Wolff said, as reported by pitdebrief.com.
Apart from this, speaking on the relationship between the team and Lewis Hamilton, Wolff reckoned that the team was trying their best again. The team principal asserted that it had always been like this between two different drivers in a team. Hence, it was expected to get tense because every driver tried their best to score maximum points.
We’re trying to do the best out of the relationship, and trying to maximize the results for what is the final season. And like always between drivers, it can be tense at times because everybody wants to do the best.Toto Wolff added.
Toto Wolff claims ‘no specific explanation’ for George Russell outscoring Lewis Hamilton
George Russell will successfully outscore Lewis Hamilton for another time after doing it in the 2022 season. Mercedes’ hope of helping the 39-year-old end his ultimate season on a ‘high’ will soon be over. Russell continues to score a one-up on Hamilton for the sixth time during the Monaco GP. Regardless, Toto Wolff feels that the statistics did not explain the entire picture for the team.
The Austrian claimed that there was no specific explanation for the fact of Russell outscoring Hamilton. However, the 52-year-old pointed out that there were many more races to go. Hence, anything could happen down the season and fans could expect a change in the pecking order. The end-season scenario would be interesting if there is a close battle between the two Silver Arrows.
I don’t think there is a specific explanation for the statistic, but it’s still a statistic. We are seven races in and there are another 17 to go. I’ve not seen this as a trend.Toto Wolff noted.
Lewis Hamilton’s 2024 season isn’t any different from his performances in the 2023 season. If the team produces a similar outcome as the last time, Mercedes could move up the pecking order after the summer break. Brackley’s in-season upgrades have been proved to be useful time and again. Hence, the team continues to attempt to rediscover their form for the potential end-season battle.
