Lewis Hamilton‘s debut year at Ferrari has been very troublesome. The Briton is unable to achieve even a podium finish, let alone a race win. Because of this, many people within the sport have started doubting Hamilton and his capabilities in Formula 1, especially as he reaches 40 years of age. However, amid the naysayers, the seven-time champion’s former colleague, Toto Wolff has sided with the former and weighed in on his ‘GOAT’ status.

Lewis Hamilton‘s performances at Ferrari in the 2025 season are full of setbacks. To make matters worse, Hamilton’s races ahead of the summer break have been extremely difficult. The 40-year-old has remained vocal about the unexpected issues he continues to face with the Italian constructor. The problems are getting so out of hand that the seven-time champion called the Scuderia to potentially replace him to get better results.

However, Toto Wolff wasn’t mincing his words while negating Lewis Hamilton’s self-loathing over the past couple of weeks. Wolff asserted that Hamilton’s critical words were nothing but him wearing his heart on his sleeve. The 40-year-old suffered from a low session as the Briton did the same at Mercedes whenever he failed to achieve well against his teammate. Regardless, the Austrian insisted that the seven-time champion has been emotionally transparent and would soon need to build himself up.

That is Lewis wearing his heart on his sleeve. That is what he thought very much when he was asked after the session. It was a low session. We had it in the past when he felt that he underperformed his own expectations and his teammate was on pole. He’s been emotionally transparent since he was a young boy. He’s got to build himself up.

Toto Wolff said, as reported by GPBlog

Even though Lewis Hamilton’s 2025 season has been nothing but a massive dissappointment, Toto Wolff labeled the former as the GOAT (greatest of all time). Wolff raised surety that no one would be able to strip Hamilton of his achievements and berate him because of a few race weekends not going according to plan. The 53-year-old reiterated that the Briton needed to remember it forever that he is indeed the greatest of all time.

He’s the GOAT (the Greatest Of All Time), and he will always be the GOAT, and nobody’s going to take that away from him, for sure not a single weekend or a race season that hasn’t gone to plan. That’s something he needs to always remember. That he is the greatest of all time.

Toto Wolff pointed out the ‘unfinished business’ Lewis Hamilton has in Formula 1, that is winning his record-break eighth drivers’ title. Wolff insisted that he was never satisfied with the ground-effect era and Hamiton’s performances in it. As such, the 53-year-old called out the Briton to not go anywhere as the next season could be a completely different situation for him. The Austrian hoped that the seven-time champion stayed in the pinnacle of motorsport for many more years to come.

Lewis has unfinished business in Formula 1. I never got happy with the ground effect cars. Maybe it’s linked to driving style. So, he shouldn’t go anywhere. Next year brand new cars, completely different to drive, and with new power units. And I hope he stays on for many more years and certainly next year is going to be important.

Toto Wolff noted

The performances for Lewis Hamilton in the 2025 season are definitely nothing to write a story about. However, if history is any proof, Hamilton loves such challenges and bounces back even stronger than before from such problems. As such, the remainder of this season, and even the coming season would be extremely interesting for the fans of the seven-time champion as he hopes to steer clear of such issues.
