The Mercedes F1 team has been on an upward trajectory since the last couple of races. The W15 has surprisingly started taking the fight to the front-running teams and Toto Wolff has thus, deemed the upcoming Spanish GP a great opportunity for his team.

The Brackley-based outfit managed a strong third and fourth-place finish at the Canadian GP. George Russell was even able to stick his W15 in pole position for the challenging 70-lap Grand Prix.

All these are positive signs for Mercedes and Wolff is eager to see what the team can do around the 4.657 km long Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya racing circuit.

Barcelona will provide a good test of our progress. It has a mix of fast, medium, and low-speed corners, a long straight, and plenty of elevation change. Tracks that contain this wide speed range have been a weakness of ours so far this year. This weekend will therefore provide another opportunity to evaluate our progress through our recent updates, and we hope to build on the positive momentum from Montreal.
Toto Wolff said in an interview with Racingnews365

Looking at the reaction of the Mercedes boss, it is quite clear that he is really looking forward to the upcoming three-day event. Moreover, Wolff has also made it known that his team will look to further build on the momentum that it has got on board, especially since the Montreal event.

Toto Wolff urges Mercedes to keep ‘working hard’

While Toto Wolff has an extremely positive outlook ahead of the Spanish GP, he feels that Mercedes can’t afford to take its foot off of the accelerator. He genuinely feels that in order to continually challenge at the front, the team will have to keep pushing until the end of the 2024 campaign.

The Brackley-based outfit is currently in fourth position in the Constructors Championship.

We know our competitors will perform more strongly at upcoming races so we will need to continue to work hard to consistently get ourselves in the fight for podiums, and eventually race win.
Toto Wolff said in the same interview

After nine rounds, the Mercedes F1 team has so far amassed only 124 points in the standings. McLaren is quite a way ahead of them in third place with 212 points in their name. Keeping this in view, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will have to work their socks off alongside the other personnel on the team to get ahead of the papaya outfit somewhere down the line.
