Max Verstappen lost out on the 2025 driver’s title win under extremely disappointing circumstances. The Dutchman suffered from a rollercoaster of a year in the final season of the ground-effect era. Despite the massive downfall in performance, Verstappen managed a meteoric performance resurgence and lost the title by just two points.
Now, during the press conference, the 28-year-old lashes out at the reporter, asking him about his shenanigans at the previous Spanish GP that might have caused him to lose the title in Abu Dhabi. the beginning of the 2025 season was decent for Max Verstappen as he picked up two race wins early on.
However, mid-way through the year, the Dutchman lost out on performance miserably and was 104 points adrift of the title lead. Regardless, a late-season resurgence from Verstappen caused him to only finish two points behind the championship winner, Lando Norris.
The Spanish GP was one of the most disappointing races for Max Verstappen as he became a loose cannon in that race. Though the Dutchman regretted the race later on in the 2025 season, it was too late, and the mistakes in that race certainly cost him heavily in his championship contention.
Still, when asked about the woes back in Barcelona during the press conference, the four-time champion did not mince his words while responding. Max Verstappen asserted that everyone forgot everything else that went wrong with him in the 2025 season, with him not even being at fault.
Verstappen did not like the fact that only the Spanish GP was brought up, and was aware that such things would be brought up. Subsequently, the 28-year-old disliked the fact that the reporter was giving him a “stupid grin” despite the on-track woes all being a part of racing in Formula 1.
You forget all the other stuff that happened in my season; you only mention Barcelona. I knew that would come. You’re giving me a stupid grin—now what? It’s part of racing; the WDC is won over 24 races.
Max Verstappen said in a press-conference.

The 2025 season is finally over, and Max Verstappen will certainly not look back on the year and ponder where he could’ve done things differently. Certainly, coming back from a point deficit of 104 to just 2 points is a massive feat in itself, and no one can strip Verstappen of the dominance he showcased this year despite racing in an inferior challenger. Hence, the four-time champion will be all the more motivated for the upcoming season and push for even more success then.
