Lewis Hamilton is all prepared to make his Ferrari debut in the 2025 season. The seven-time champion is expected to take the Italian constructor back to their glory days. However, Hamilton will have to face the strong pair of McLarens in the coming season to achieve this goal. Hence youngster Oscar Piastri made a snarky remark on the 40-year-old’s chances at winning with Maranello based team.

Oscar Piastri joined McLaren back in 2023 and immediately got up to speed, winning a sprint race in his rookie season. The Aussie further secured two impressive wins in the 2024 season. Amidst McLaren’s ever-growing pace, Piastri declared that Lewis Hamilton winning with Ferrari would be ‘cool’ but there is a twist.

Piastri hilariously remarked that if he wasn’t racing on the grid, Hamilton’s championship with Ferrari would be ‘pretty cool’. However, the 24-year-old reiterated that this situation would be possible only if he wasn’t racing with McLaren. This meant that the Aussie is prepared to go against not only his dominant teammate Lando Norris, but also the seven-time champion in the Scuderia.

If I wasn’t racing in F1, seeing Lewis Hamilton win a world championship with Ferrari would be pretty cool. Would be, if I wasn’t racing against him.

Oscar Piastri said on the Fast and The Curious podcast.

Oscar Piastri ‘confident’ of becoming a World Champion in 2025

Oscar Piastri couldn’t bridge the gap to the reigning world champion Max Verstappen in the 2024 season due to playing the team game. However, the upcoming season would be a different story as Piastri aims to succeed from the get-go.

Piastri reckoned that there were some situations where he had to sabotage his own race to help Norris. However, the Aussie accepted that his British counterpart helped him out as well. He aims to start 2025 season with a ‘clean slate’ the 24-year-old and is confident of becoming the World Champion.

Yes there were a couple of situations where I ended up helping Lando, but there were some ways he still helped out me so it wasn’t as clear-cut as that. But definitely we are starting on a clean slate and I do think that I can become World Champion this year.

Oscar Piastri told Formula 1.

McLaren will have to keep up with a similar development trajectory in the 2025 season to remain at the top. The rivals are highly likely to showcase a great pace of improvement in the final edition of the ground-effect era. Hence, the coming season is set to put forth a high level of competition, especially at the forefront.
