Mardenborough had the guidance of a former racing driver Jack Salter. Salter acted as the mentor of the British driver for the entire journey.

Although it has been rumored that Jann Mardenborough’s real-life mentor Ricard Divila perhaps inspired the creation of Jack Salter.Mardenborough was assisted by Divila throughout his time in the real GT Academy. With the Brazilian mentor taking a similar strict approach to the British driver. The major point of difference between Jack Salter and Richard Divila was that the latter never had a career-changing crash.

Moreover, Jann Mardenborough’s performance coach Gavin Gough might have also served as inspiration for the role of Jack Slater. Perhaps the filmmakers decided to mold Salter by examining Divila and Gough’s impact on Mardenborough’s life.
