Fernando Alonso’s season has started swimmingly. with three P3 finishes in a row in the first three races. Finally, he is in a car that can at least consistently compete for podiums. Winning will be the next step, of course. So, on the sporting front, all is going well, and there’s still some room for improvement. Aston Martin look to make further progress this year. But on the personal front, there is some saddening news: The Spaniard and his girlfriend, Andrea Schlager, have split.
Schlager is a journalist and TV presenter, who currently works for ServusTV. She was born on June 16, 1982, in Knittelfield, Austria. Mainly, her focus is on Formula 1, MotoGP, and Tennis. Their work is how the pair had met – in the F1 paddock. She has interviewed Alonso multiple times, including at the 2022 British and Belgian Grands Prix. It first came out that they were in a relationship last year, in late April.
Now, as mentioned above, they’ve split. Alonso announced this through an Instagram story. Over a photo of him and Schlager, the Spaniard wrote:
We wanted to tell you that our relationship as a couple [has] ended. We have been lucky enough to share a fantastic time together, and it will continue to be so, but on a different form of affection.
Fernando Alonso and Andrea Schlager will continue “working together”
One thing is rather obvious, it seems to be an amicable split. Particularly because of the part where Fernando Alonso says that he and Andrea Schlager will continue to share a “fantastic time together”. But of course, “on a different form of affection”. However, the two have been very private with their relationship, so the details are hard to come by.
As you have probably seen, we have continued working on and off-track on various projects together also during this time, and we will keep doing so with deep love and respect for each other. We thought it is appropriate to share [that we've split] as you have all been very supportive. Thanks for that. Love, Fer[nando] & Andrea.Fernando Alonso continued with the message.
So, the pair will also continue “working together” on things. That’s another good sign that it’s an amicable split. It’ll be interesting to see if they’ll share these projects with the public, or appear together ever again. Schlager was recently in Melbourne for the Australian GP, so we may see her interview Alonso in the paddock again. Considering that they still seem to be good friends, it’s a possibility.
