McLaren found itself in its first title battle in over a decade last season. Lando Norris put forth a stiff, albeit unsuccessful challenge against reigning world champion Max Verstappen. While the British team managed to secure the Constructors’ title for the first time since 1998.

Now, concerns might be raised over McLaren potentially becoming overconfident in 2025. As the Woking-based squad seemed to have the quickest car in the majority of the season, with arguably the best performing line-up of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

Nevertheless, 2025 will likely be a different beast. The top 4 teams will be working around the clock before the start of the season. Though, it is McLaren who had the likely performance advantage heading into the long winter break.

McLaren cannot underestimate rivals

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri might expect to have the quickest car in 2025. However, some already predict Max Verstappen to remain the driver to beat in the upcoming season. With Red Bull seemingly finding its way in the final leg of last year.

Moreover, Ferrari could become a serious threat amidst Lewis Hamilton’s arrival. The Prancing Horse will be rejuvenated at the start of the season and hopeful of fighting for race victories from the get-go. While Mercedes might emerge as a dark horse if the Silver Arrows have managed to make substantial gains over the winter.

Norris has previously mentioned that McLaren’s success only made the team work harder last year. This spirit will be necessary if the British squad wants to stay at the top in the coming months. Though, Woking will also need to maintain the fine balance of focusing on the 2026 rules without completely abandoning this year’s development.

McLaren likely expects a tough fight for the 2025 title. The British team will stick to its high ambitions for this season without discounting threats from rivals. Fans can expect to potentially see Norris and Piastri fighting tooth and nail over the course of the upcoming season.
