McLaren shocked many in the F1 paddock by making massive performance gains this year. The Woking-based squad finished fourth in the constructors championship scoring 302 points in 2023. However, the 2024 looked completely different for them, they are currently in second position and one race away from snatching the lead from Red Bull. These crucial progress highlighted their improvements over one year. Zak Brown claims the mistakes they made were eventually the part of growth and learning experience.
Zak Brown on their early performance said that everyone in the team agrees we’ve made several mistakes over the years. But the British team sees these mistakes as valuable learning opportunities. The McLaren CEO recalled Toto Wolff’s advice over making errors. Brown explained that Wolff mentioned, teams often only understand certain things after they have been clearly shown or discussed. Wolff words highlighted, the errors they make teaches important lessons that should be taken into consideration. But they only grasp their full significance once they are clearly explained.
We’ve all made a number of mistakes, which for me are learning experiences I think Toto Wolff was spot on in his comment. ‘Well, sometimes you understand these things once they’ve been put on the table.’Zak Brown told the BBC

Zak Brown stated that when he looks at the mistakes made by drivers or the team, he sees it as a team issue. He believed that it doesn’t matter who made the mistakes, the team will learn from them and avoid repeating them. Brown emphasized on learning from each error they make to improve and perform better in future. This is because every mistake provides a chance to improve and make things better than they were in the first place.
When I look at the mistakes we’ve made, whether it’s the drivers or us, it doesn’t matter; we’re a team, we’re not going to make them again. We’re learning.Zak Brown added.
Zak Brown expresses confidence in Lando Norris showing no worries
Zak Brown explained that McLaren probably should have finished 1-2 at Silverstone, but they ended up in third and fourth. He mentioned that Lando Norris is working hard consistently to win the world championship. Norris is putting in a lot of effort and learning as he goes, just like the rest of the team. Brown reassured that he’s not worried about the Briton’s progress over the upcoming races. He believed that Norris’s efforts and learning process will help him succeed in the future. This will eventually bring success to the team, as they are just one race away from snatching the lead from Red Bull. Both Norris and Oscar Piastri are driving exceptionally well and there are high chances of them winning the constructors championship.

By the form he has been putting in since many races now, it is possible in upcoming races. The team dedicated it’s full focus on the upcoming Dutch GP where they need to perform well as they did in the first phase.
