The 2023 F1 season is 14 rounds down, and Max Verstappen has shown sensational form. While he has been dominating the sport since 2022, Lewis Hamilton recently claimed that Verstappen has never had strong teammates, and this is something that has not sat well with the Red Bull Team Principal, Christian Horner.
Max Verstappen has been in an incredibly rich vein of form during the ongoing campaign, and none of the other drivers, including his teammate, Sergio Perez, have been able to stand against him. While he’s been dominating, Lewis Hamilton recently said, “All my teammates have been stronger than the teammates Max has had.“
Christian Horner is not impressed by this, and while talking about the same, he told Sky Sports, “A bit strange to hear that from his mouth after seven years of dominance on his part. [Hamilton] has had several teammates, and he always has the upper hand on his teammates, but it’s not about you just fighting against your teammate, but against the whole field.”
“Max clearly showed what he was capable of, some drivers might not even want to drive alongside him.” Christian Horner has made it known that he does not understand Lewis Hamilton’s comments when he himself dominated several of his teammates during Mercedes’s turbo hybrid era.

Christian Horner and Co. are eyeing their 14th consecutive win of 2023
While Christian Horner has defended Max Verstappen against Lewis Hamilton’s scathing comments, the Red Bull team has got a bit of a job on its hands at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza F1 circuit. The outfit is currently on a thirteen-race win streak and could extend it to fourteen if they manage to secure the win during this Sunday’s Italian GP.
However, to make a strong step in that direction, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez would have to perform exceptionally well during the Italian GP qualifying session just a few hours away. Ferrari looks strong on home soil and could spoil Red Bull’s party at the track.
From Red Bull’s point of view, it would be an ideal situation if its drivers could secure a 1-2 finish in the qualifying so that the team would be in a strong position heading into tomorrow’s race. The Monza circuit is famously known as the Temple of Speed, and the upcoming event is shaping up to be a fascinating watch.
