For the past few months, fans have clamored for the return of AJ Styles. The Phenomenal One has been absent from television since Clash at the Castle in June. On the latest episode of SmackDown, the WWE Universe finally got its wish. A vignette showing Styles aired during the show. Moreover, WWE announced that he would finally return on next week’s show.

In his last appearance, the veteran suffered a loss against Cody Rhodes in an “I Quit Match” match for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Amid his absence, fans raised concerns about AJ’s health. However, rumors of a possible injury were shut down when reports confirmed that he had been competing on house shows and live events.

A few days ago, Fightful Select reported that Styles’ contract was set to expire by early 2025. Hence, many speculated whether this played a major part in his absence from WWE programming. Nonetheless, it seems that the former WWE Champion will fulfill the remaining months of his current deal.

The 47-year-old has poignantly teased retiring from in-ring action on multiple occasions. As such, it wouldn’t be surprising if Styles hangs up his boots after his contract expires. Before his unexplained absence, the legendary wrestler was in the midst of a rejuvenated run.

In addition to his matches against Rhodes, Styles had stellar showings against the likes of Randy Orton and LA Knight. Furthermore, the former United States Champion even returned to Japan, where he faced Naomichi Marufuji in an incredible encounter.

WWE Universe in frenzy after AJ Styles’ return date announced on SmackDown

Needless to say, fans are ecstatic to see AJ Styles finally back in action on SmackDown. Some members of the WWE Universe poked fun at Triple H for staying online and reading fans’ tweets. Previously, reports suggested that The Game has been open to feedback, constantly looking at online reactions during shows.

A few users called for Shinsuke Nakamura‘s return as well. Similar to Styles, the former NXT Champion has remained absent from television since May, despite appearing on live shows. Meanwhile, others believed that this confirmed the veteran was staying with WWE.

On the other hand, one fan felt that his return should’ve been kept as a surprise instead of announcing it in advance. Another user predicted that The Phenomenal One would come after LA Knight and his United States Championship.
