Last week on Raw, a lot of familiar faces turned up. For a change, The Rock was not in the main event, and CM Punk actually was. Even though a bunch of fans were manifesting for them to interact on-air, they didn’t. Instead, they met backstage. WWE recently uploaded the behind-the-scenes photo dump on its official website.
As one can see below, Rock and Punk are having a chat. It’s been making the rounds since the moment it surfaced on social media. For the unversed, both of these men go back more than a decade. The Second City Saint was denied a WrestleMania main event by The Great One. In 2013, Rock was the one who ended Punk’s historic 434-day WWE title reign at the Royal Rumble.
The Chicagoan failed to regain the gold at the subsequent Elimination Chamber PLE that saw Rock and preserve a date with John Cena at WrestleMania 29. Punk had long harbored resentment toward the Black Adam star and WWE for snatching his earmarked spot.
However, it’s 2025, and the two have apparently put their beef on the back burner. Speaking of what roles they played during the Netflix premiere of Raw, Rock and Punk were the alpha and the omega of that night. The Brahma Bull kicked things off, acknowledged Cody Rhodes‘ contribution, and hyped up the crowd for the ‘Tribal Combat.’
Later on, after Roman Reigns beat Solo Sikoa, the Jumanji actor bestowed the Ula Fala on The OTC and hugged him. As for Punk, he took on Seth Rollins. It was brewing since the moment Punk returned to WWE. After a mugging of epic proportions, The Best in the World put his erstwhile admirer to sleep.
Fans draw hilarious conclusions from The Rock and CM Punk’s conversation
In hindsight, The Rock‘s tête-à-tête with CM Punk seems like a wholesome reunion. While they didn’t get along in the past, it’s water under the bridge now. However, nothing could have kept the netizens from dropping some of the most hilarious reactions to their backstage snap from Raw.
The fans couldn’t help but imagine if the two were bickering over who’s going to headline WrestleMania 41. Many folks brought up that exact instance from 2013 where Dwayne Johnson robbed Punk of his Mania dream.
One pointed out that Rock was probably apologizing to The Voice of the Voiceless for gobbling up his main event once again at the Bad Blood PLE last year. But what grabbed the most eyeballs was a fan claiming that is how adults talk it out. He said that Punk’s no longer working with children—referring to his infamous AEW All Out media scrum rant.
