Nick Diaz shocked fans after announcing that he would come back for a welterweight bout against Vicente Luque. Diaz is one of the most loved fighters in the UFC and many were looking forward to this fight. However, as it turns out there have been some changes in plans.
Nick Diaz‘s fight against Vicente Luque has been canceled from the upcoming UFC Abu Dhabi card on August 3. Although which fighter was affected is still not clear, the main reason for it is reported to be travel issues. The announcement was made during the UFC Vegas 94 broadcast on Saturday. The intention is to reschedule the bout between Luque and Diaz for a later date. However, for now, nothing has been decided yet.
The bout was set to be Diaz’s first UFC outing since 2021 when he lost to Robbie Lawler via third-round TKO. Diaz hasn’t won a fight since defeating former two-division UFC champion B.J. Penn via decision in 2011. Similarly, Luque was 1-3 in his last four bouts and needed a big win to move forward.
With Diaz vs. Luque canceled, Sharaputdin Magomedov will face Michal Oleksiejczuk in a middleweight match. Given Magomedov’s recent performance, it could be an entertaining fight. However, many fans were disappointed about not being able to see Diaz fight again.

Many users hilariously commented that Diaz pulled out of the fight because he couldn’t smoke weed in Abu Dhabi. Others were relieved after the cancellation as they didn’t want to see a legend like Diaz getting a beat down. However, some fans were of the opinion that Diaz should stay retired as he is way past his prime. They cited his last few fights as evidence of their claim. On top of it, some are optimistic about the fight being rescheduled to a pay-per-view event later this year.
