The FIFA World Cup 2026 is the biggest fiesta in the history of football. For the first time, 48 different teams featuring a long list of elite names will battle for the sport’s crowning achievement. However, the conversations around it are far from the players or the matchups, and instead focus on the soaring prices that prevent fans from turning up.

In the past few weeks, astronomical prices have become one of the most talked-about topics in sports. In recent news, the latest updates from the City of Angels have people’s wings of hope splintering away. According to the official ticketing partner of the FIFA World Cup, fans attending the host nation’s first match against Paraguay will have to shell out at least $151 for the cheapest parking spot.

If that didn’t get those eyes popping off, this lot is still more than twenty minutes away from the stadium. Park and Walk. If the fans want to do away with what constitutes more than a brisk walk, there’s parking at the stadium itself. However, those are selling for $300, and it’s still 12 minutes from the entrance. More salt in the wound, these parking tickets can’t be bought on matchday and must be prepaid.

Amid this, Los Angeles officials are strongly promoting public transit to help travelers avoid astronomical driving costs. Through its new “Go Metro to World Cup” promotion, the city is encouraging attendees to ditch their cars entirely. The financial incentive to do so is massive: while official parking at SoFi Stadium is hitting a staggering $300, a standard LA Metro transit fare costs just $1.75.

Even the absolute cheapest, bare-bones parking options in the surrounding areas are running close to $50 ($47.73), making public transportation the most logical choice for the majority of the travelers.

According to the official LA Metro website, the city is establishing a dedicated park-and-ride network to accommodate tournament crowds. Hours before kickoff, direct shuttle buses will run frequently from various transit hubs across the city straight to SoFi Stadium.

SoFi Stadium may be without F&B during the matchdays

Nearly 2,000 food and beverage workers at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles began voting Thursday on whether to authorize a strike. The high-stakes vote, organized by the UNITE HERE Local 11 union, occurs just eight days before the venue is scheduled to host its first major FIFA World Cup match on June 12.

The workers involved, including cooks, servers, bartenders, dishwashers, and concession staff, are employed by Legends Global, the stadium’s food service operator. According to the union, contract negotiations have stalled significantly over key issues such as wages, workplace protections, and job security.

Union leaders point out that while corporate hospitality suites for the global tournament are selling for upwards of $100,000, the company’s current proposal offers wage freezes for some employees and raises as low as 25 cents an hour for others. Beyond fair compensation, workers are demanding safeguards against automation and subcontracting, as well as protections regarding immigration enforcement activity on the job.

Compounding the labor dispute, civil rights groups, including the ACLU of Southern California, have called on the California Attorney General to investigate FIFA’s worker accreditation process. They alleged that the sensitive personal data required from stadium staff could potentially be shared with federal agencies.

The service operator has stated that they have maintained a strong, decade-long relationship with the union and remain fully committed to reaching a fair agreement through good-faith negotiations. The voting runs through Friday evening, and if the strike authorization passes, employees said they are fully prepared to walk off the job if their demands are not met before the world stage turns to LA.
