Floyd Mayweather retired with a perfect record of 50-0. However, that did not stop ‘Money Mayweather’ from stepping into the ring. Over the years the 47-year-old boxer has fought several exhibition fights, although in the face of much heavy-handed criticism. However, it looks like the boxing icon has enough of it. Here is what happened:

Floyd Mayweather recently defended his decision to continue participating in exhibition fights despite retiring from professional boxing. In a recent post on Instagram, Mayweather likened his career choices to those of business moguls like Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and Warren Buffett. He argued that if these billionaires can continue expanding their wealth and legacy into their 60s and beyond, he should be allowed to do the same without facing criticism.

Retirement isn't about slowing down, it's about living on your own terms. I've worked hard to build a life where I can choose my adventures, and if those adventures still bring in multi-millions, even better!... Bottom line, there's too many of you busy pocket watching, while I'm busy still creating wealth and legacy.

Mayweather emphasized that success is not something one retires from but something one refines. His exhibitions are a way to keep building his legacy while entertaining his fans. Floyd Mayweather retired from professional boxing in 2017 after defeating Conor McGregor in one of the highest-grossing fights in boxing history. However, he transitioned into exhibition boxing, where he has continued to capitalize on his fame.

As of 2024, Mayweather has participated in multiple exhibition matches against various opponents, including YouTuber Logan Paul, MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura, and John Gotti III, among others. In total, he has reportedly earned over $200 million from these exhibitions, often making $10-20 million per fight depending on the opponent and the event’s promotion.

When Dana White trolled boxing because of the Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul matchup

Mayweather has faced scrutiny from some who believe these exhibition matches detract from his illustrious career. Figures like Oscar De La Hoya criticized the quality of his fights. Despite this, Mayweather remains undeterred. Back in 2021 Dana White, then president of the UFC, was highly critical of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul boxing match.

He expressed frustration with how it reflected the state of boxing, calling it more of a spectacle than a legitimate contest. White criticized fans who paid to watch the fight, referring to them as “dummies” for spending money on such events.

The exhibition fight between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul took place in June 2021, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. It was an eight-round match that ended without a knockout or official winner, as it was not formally scored by judges. However, Mayweather outperformed Paul throughout the fight, landing more accurate punches and controlling the action.

Moreover, he could have ended the fight anytime he wanted. However, chose to continue it all the way to the final bell. This was probably to allow the sponsors and advertisers to earn as much money as they could. Further proving that everything ‘Money’ Mayweather does is business-oriented
