In Short
  • Gervonta Davis faces a civil lawsuit alleging battery, false imprisonment, and emotional distress related to an incident at a Miami strip club.
  • Surveillance footage shows Davis physically confronting his ex-partner, raising concerns about his legal and professional future.
  • Davis' ongoing legal troubles have led to the withdrawal from a lucrative exhibition bout against Jake Paul, impacting his boxing career.

Gervonta Davis was once considered one of boxing’s most promising champions, earning five world titles across three weight divisions. He currently holds the WBA lightweight championship in recess, a status tied to ongoing legal troubles that have limited his activity. Recent surveillance footage showing him abusing his ex-partner has further clouded his professional standing, raising questions about his future.

A civil lawsuit against Davis was filed by Courtney Rossel in Miami‑Dade County, alleging battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The case stems from an October 27, 2025, incident at a Miami strip club, where surveillance footage shows a physical confrontation. Rossel can pursue up to $5 million in punitive damages under the ongoing proceedings.

During a recent hearing in Miami‑Dade County, an attorney navigated eight surveillance clips from Tootsie’s Cabaret showing the October 27th encounter. The footage depicts Davis grabbing the woman by the hair and neck as they moved through a hallway, service areas, and downstairs. It ends with her breaking free and returning inside the club while Davis exits toward a parking area, providing context for the civil claim.

This comes months after Davis was arrested following a two‑week police search in Miami Gardens over violence allegations. He was taken into custody in late January 2026 and released on bond shortly afterward. A few weeks later, Davis appeared in court via video call for a hearing connected to the case. These proceedings have continued to affect both his legal situation and his professional boxing schedule.

Before the current legal controversy, Davis’ March 1, 2025, fight with Lamont Roach Jr. ended in a majority draw, allowing him to retain his WBA lightweight title. In the ninth round, Davis took a knee after hair product reportedly got in his eyes, but the referee did not count it as a knockdown. However, many believed that had it been scored, Roach likely would have won the fight, marking Tank’s first professional loss.

These issues led Gervonta Davis to withdraw from his December 2025 exhibition bout against Jake Paul, which could have been a major payday. Anthony Joshua earned nearly $92 million for knocking out Paul, highlighting the opportunity ‘Tank’ missed. The recent video showing him allegedly abusing a woman further damages his public image, and with legal proceedings ongoing, his career remains under scrutiny.

Recent footage of Gervonta Davis catches the attention of his arch-rival

Gervonta Davis’ legal team issued a statement regarding the recently released surveillance video showing the alleged October 2025 incident at a Miami strip club. The attorneys expressed disappointment over the court’s ruling allowing the video to be part of the public record. They maintained that the footage does not present the full context of the encounter and should not be interpreted as conclusive evidence against Davis.
