Real Madrid legend Luka Modric has signed a new contract, tying him to Los Blancos for another year. According to sources, the 37-year-old rejected multiple big-money offers from Saudi Arabia.

The Croatian signed the deal despite the Spanish giants heavily reinforcing their midfield with the signings of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga. The latter has been shifted to left-back to accommodate Modric. Meanwhile, the former is second-choice at the moment. Real Madrid current are also close to signing the 19-year-old Jude Bellingham. According to reports, they beat out competition from Manchester City and Liverpool for his signature.

A club in Saudi Arabia offered Luka Modric a lucrative two-year contract worth €50 million net salary, according to sources. Regardless, the veteran superstar expressed his desire to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu beyond this season. Saudi Arabia has been targeting iconic players from Europe to boost the country’s sporting profile ahead of a potential World Cup bid for 2030, pursuing the likes of Lionel Messi.

Los Blancos were unable to match Modric’s salary from Saudi Arabia. However, various outlets reported that money was never an issue between the two parties. There were concerns from Real Madrid regarding the Croatian’s desire to continue playing for the national team, but they were still keen on continuing the partnership.

Croatia and Real Madrid legend Luka Modric commented on manager Carlo Ancelotti’s future at the club following their 4-0 humiliation at the hands of Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.

The 37-year-old said,“Carlo Ancelotti deserves to stay as Real Madrid coach also next season.” Ancelotti has won more UEFA competitions than any other manager, with nine. Rumors heavily linked the Italian to take over as Brazil’s head coach following Tite’s departure after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Ancelotti seemed to confirm his status as Real Madrid head coach beyond this season. “Nobody doubts my future, because the president was quite clear 15 days ago,” he said.
