Manchester United has finally announced the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as their Interim Manager until the end of the season.

Ralf Rangnick has said that Man United can still fight back and rise up the points table.

The 63-year-old German manager has signed a deal to look after the team till the end of this campaign before taking on a consultancy role until 2024. He could be in charge of Arsenal’s visit on Thursday, which depends on the confirmation of his work permit.

Michael Carrick guided Manchester United for their Champions League win at Villarreal and a draw at Chelsea since replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjær is said to remain in charge until Rangnick’s work permit issues are resolved. Solskjær’s management team is expected to stay at the club, however, Rangnick could have several additions or changes which include bringing in his video analyst Lars Kornetka.

Ralf Rangnick and his managerial reputation

Manchester United was looking at several options to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and manage the team till the end of the season. However, the club laid its eyes on Rangnick, who recently joined Lokomotiv Moscow as their head of sports and development in July.

Ralf Rangnick has managed teams such as Leipzig, Schalke, and Hoffenheim and his reputation has impressed Manchester United to make a move on this deal.

Rangnick has an amazing coaching reputation during his time in Germany, with both Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel speaking about his managerial skills and success.

He won the German Cup with Schalke in 2011 and took RB Leipzig to the final in 2019.

During the 2010-11 season, he led Schalke to the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they lost 6-1 on aggregate to United, who were then beaten by Barcelona in the final.

Rangnick after joining United said: “I am excited to be joining Manchester United and focused on making this a successful season for the club.”

“The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience. All my efforts for the next six months will be on helping these players fulfill their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team. Beyond that, I look forward to supporting the club’s longer-term goals on a consultancy basis.” he further added.

Manchester United on Ralf Rangnick’s appointment

John Murtough, Manchester United football director, said: “Ralf is one of the most respected coaches and innovators in European football. He was our number one candidate for an interim manager, reflecting the invaluable leadership and technical skills he will bring from almost four decades of experience in management and coaching.

“Everyone at the club is looking forward to working with him during the season ahead, and then for a further two years in his advisory role.”

However, apart from this Rangnick has a lot of work to do after coming into the team. Manchester United currently sits at 8th in the points table with just 18 points from their 13 matches. The competitive structure of the Premier League is much more different and difficult compared to Bundesliga. This will be a real test for him and his reputation should be backing him up when he takes charge of his first game after his work permit issues are resolved.
