After failing to get the frequent game time, the 1.84 m tall defender moved away from Stamford Bridge in the winter transfer window of 2021. Ever since his arrival in Italy, Fikayo Tomori featured in 17 Serie A games and helped his side to finish in the top-four. He won 15 tackles in Serie A alongside 38 blocks and 21 interceptions in the Italian top-flight.
The versatile central defender can slot in the right-back position as well. AC Milan had bought Diogo Dalot from Manchester United for the right flank position but they are yet to re-negotiate the deal with Red Devils. Even if Dalot returns to Old Trafford, Tomori can replace him on the right flank as well.
After a string of fine performances from Fikayo Tomori, AC Milan’s technical director, Paolo Maldini was flattered by the attitude of the player on the pitch. Talking to the media, Maldini had said:
Fortunately, I work for a club that has an effect on players. When AC Milan call, the players always listen. Fikayo is a player with particular characteristics, pace and intensity, so we thought he could be a good reinforcement for this second half of the season
The Italian outfit had shown intent to sign the player just after few talismanic performances from the English international. AC Milan are exercising the “Option to Buy” about Tomori ahead of the summer transfer window.
