Lucas Digne has recently joined Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa after his fall out with ex-Everton manager Rafa Benitez. The player has had a good start at his new club, playing a very important role in Aston Villa’s draw against Manchester United.

The Lions are scheduled to travel to Goodison Park for their next match against Everton and Lucas Digne could be expected to have some backlash from the fans of his previous club. Ahead of the match, Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard was asked about Digne’s performance in the encounter against Manchester United, and whether that will help him in the next match against Everton.

Gerrard in his reply appreciated how Lucas Digne has been an absolute quality against Manchester United and showed that Aston Villa has brought in a pedigree to their club. He said:

“I’m sure Lucas will be feeling good about his first performance with Villa. I thought it was outstanding and everything he did was pure quality. Really happy with the stuff he has done out of possession as well.

“I think he showed the level of player he is and the pedigree that we have brought in, an international class footballer. He has backed it up in the training and I’m sure that if he is selected tomorrow, he will handle the situation pretty fine.

The Aston Villa manager further added that he feels the Everton fans will appreciate the fact Lucas Digne has done everything he could for Everton.

He said: “I’m sure that the Everton fans will appreciate Lucas because he [has] done everything he could for the club and strange situations allowed Aston Villa the opportunity to bring him here which we obviously benefit from because he is a world-class left-back.”

Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa currently sit at 13th position at the Premier League table with 23 points and have managed just one win in their last five matches.
