Manchester United vs Wolves: Ian Wright left confused with 3 decisions made by Red Devils boss Ralf Rangnick

Manchester United vs Wolves

Manchester United hosted Wolves at Old Trafford yesterday night in the Premier League. It was a rather poor game for the home fans to witness as the Red Devils did not seem to get hold of the ball consistently throughout the game.
Ralf Rangnick witnessed his first loss as the Manchester United manager after his side lost 1-0 to Wolves via a Joao Moutinho goal in the 82nd minute of the game. It was nothing less than what Wolves deserved as they controlled the game pretty much the whole time.
On the other hand, Manchester United did not seem to have the answer to anything that Wolves demanded. The Red Devils mustered only 2 shots on target throughout the game and were looking weak in the midfield once again.
The defeat leaves Manchester United in 7th place in the Premier League with a game in hand but still 4 points below Arsenal who are currently 4th. The Red Devils’ fans do not have any expectation from this season as their team have failed to live up to the expectations and are nowhere near where they aim to be.

Ian Wright on Manchester United’s problems vs Wolves:

After Manchester United were beaten 1-0 at home by Wolves, there were questions asked by several fans and journalists about Ralf Rangnick’s team management and his starting 11. One of the pundits that was left confused with this was former Arsenal player Ian Wright.
Ian Wright questioned Manchester United’s mentality and said that ‘nothing had changed’ at the club since Ralf Rangnick took over. The former Arsenal striker was left confused with the decisions made by the interim Red Devils boss Rangnick during the game and couldn’t understand the team selection.
The former Gunners striker questioned Ralf Rangnick‘s decision to start with Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic at home. He also questioned why Bruno Fernandes was left on the bench and why Mason Greenwood came off after just 60 minutes.
Wright said,” I am confused as to what Rangnick is trying to do in terms of trying to control a game. You are not going to control a game with McTominay and Matic in midfield, for me. It is a game I don’t know why Bruno Fernandes did not start. We saw the impact he had.”
The former Arsenal player added,” Manchester United at Old Trafford should be controlling a game. Why they need two holding midfielders of the same kind of ilk is confusing, for me. Surely, at Old Trafford, you have got to be progressing the ball to Cavani, Ronaldo, Sancho and Greenwood- who I still can’t believe came off.”
“Put pressure on these teams. Honestly, I am not seeing anything different, nothing different at all”, was Ian Wright’s answer when asked about the impact of Ralf Rangnick on the squad.
