La Liga: Atletico Madrid Fixtures for 2021/22

Atletico Madrid, the Champions of the 2020-21 La Liga season, will be hoping to begin with another set of positive displays as they envisage another shot to glory in the Spanish top flight football.

Atletico Madrid were on the top of things for a better half of the La Liga title race last season, but some shaky displays and not noteworthy results put their top spot in doubts in the ending stages of the campaign.

Atletico had lost their top spot to Real Madrid for some time being, but some hard fought wins in the last couple of games and some favourable results elsewhere going their way meant that Diego Simeone’s team were crowned Champions after 7 long years of wait.

Atletico are already preparing for their title defence, as they look to strengthen their bench with the addition of talented Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul from Udinese in coming weeks and other crucial signings are also a possibility after the Euros for a increased squad depth.

Atletico Madrid will begin their La Liga title defence with a travel to Balaidos to face Celta Vigo away on 15th August.

Following that, Atletico will host Elche at home on 22nd August, followed by some enticing fixtures against Villarreal, RCD Espanyol and Athletic Club, which could shape their position for the starting half of the season.

The highly anticipated Madrid Derby against city rivals Real Madrid will be a critical point in the season, with the first match scheduled to take place on 12th December at home to Real at the newly renovated Santiago Bernabeu stadium. The return fixture is due on 8th May, at the business end of the campaign at home to Atletico.

Atletico, however will be the first to host other title contenders and rivals Barcelona at the Wanda Metropolitano on 3rd October , with the return leg to be held at Nou Camp on 6th February, where Barcelona will welcome the Champions.

Atletico will be drawing an end to their 2021-22 campaign with a high adrenaline finale clash against Real Sociedad in 22nd May.
