Tottenham Hotspurs manager Ryan Mason defended striker Richarlison after he was mocked by Premier League forwards Michail Antonio and Callum Wilson on Friday. Newcastle striker Wilson and West Ham star Antonio took a swipe at Richarlison for his wild, shirtless celebration after scoring a last-gasp equalizer away at Liverpool last month. However, the celebrations were only short-lived for Diego Jota scored the winner for the Reds moments later.
Mason reportedly admitted that Richarlison had struggled ‘for rhythm‘ this season. But he also backed him to come good next term. Mason reportedly said, “Maybe he’s heard it, maybe he’s seen it, maybe it will give him a little bit more. I’m not sure on that. We’re all trying to do our best, we’re all professionals, we’re working hard, we dedicate our lives to get to this level and to compete at this level. From a player’s point of view, I’ve been signed for a club as a record signing so I know the feeling that you really want to give back.”
Mason the added, “One thing I will say about Richy is he’s always come in and he’s had energy to try. He’s a fighter, he works hard, he trains hard. I’ve never seen someone that shirks responsibility. I’ve always felt like he’s been chasing his fitness. And there were moments early on in the season where he got a few disallowed goals, a few moments were hit the post and maybe those would have gone in then maybe it created a bit of momentum.“
The Brazilian cost Spurs £60million from Everton last summer but his stoppage-time header at Anfield was his first league goal for the club after seeing efforts chalked off for offside against Fulham and Nottingham Forest. Spurs host Brentford on Saturday and finish the season at Leeds on May 28.

Tottenham Hotspur interested to bring ex-Arsenal midfielder back to the Premier League
Tottenham Hotspurs are eyeing a transfer for former Arsenal star and French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi. Guendouzi fell out of favor under Mikel Arteta. This was after taunting Brighton players about their wages in 2020.
Guendouzi subsequently made loan moves to Hertha Berlin and Marseille. Although he joined the French club on a permanent basis last summer.
Spurs seem to be keen to bring him back to the Premier League. But there is no shortage of interest in Guendouzi. Marseille will reportedly demand £ 28 million for the midfielder. Aston Villa are said to be leading the race to sign the Frenchman. The player has worked with manager Unai Emery at The Emirates.
