Manchester United have been under heavy scrutiny in this last week after their 1-0 defeat against Wolves in the Premier League at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are currently 7th in the league and are a long way from challenging their local rivals Manchester City for the title.

Manchester United sacked their previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a 4-1 defeat against Watford and hired Ralf Rangnick as their interim coach. Many fans expected that this will start a series of good results by the club but things have been opposite of that.

The Red Devils have dropped points against relegation threatened Newcastle United and a mid-table team Wolves in the last 2 weeks. This leaves the club 22 points behind Manchester City, who are the clear favourites to win the title.

After their defeat against Wolves, Manchester United players and the manager were under a lot of pressure from English media and the fans. There were too many fake rumours and reports spreading around stating that the players were unhappy with the new manager and that they lacked belief.

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has finally opened up about the various rumours flying around in the press. The England international sat down for an interview with the club media to talk about the current circumstances and how the players are feeling ahead of a tricky clash against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

Harry Maguire said,” I think it’s always been like Manchester United vs the world for United players and we have to deal with it. The most important thing for us is the fans, and we are letting them down. But the support at Old Trafford and at away games is unbelievable still.”

The 28 year old added,” We have big players in the team; leaders. I’m sick of repeating myself but it can’t continue like this- we need to go on a proper run, starting Monday. We are all angry and want to do our best, which has probably come across on the pitch at times. but the team spirit is good, despite what people say.”

“Being a professional footballer, you have to take criticism on the chin and react well to it. At the same time, you have to ignore the outside noise sometimes and just get your head down. Sometimes it can be good to have the ‘us against the world’ mentality. I know a lot was written about Sir Alex’s teams and the way he used that to spur his players on. He obviously did that brilliantly,” said the England international.

Maguire added,” For me, with this team, it shouldn’t need criticism to motivate players. If players of this quality aren’t motivated to play for this club when they pull the shirt on, then there’s something wrong. I’m the captain and leader in the dressing room, and I’ve had private conversations with the players and management.”

The Manchester United captain was also asked about his expectations and hunger to win titles. To which, he gave an honest answer which must have went down well with the Red Devils’ fans around the world and also to the doubters.

Maguire said,” I’m here for the fight and I know my team-mates are. I expect them to be and if they are not then there’s something wrong. I came here to win titles. I could have signed elsewhere but i wanted to be at United and help them get back to winning ways that the club had in the Sir Alex Ferguson era. It will come if we all stay together.”
