Lionel Messi's record-breaking Instagram image following Argentina's World Cup victory included a 'fake' trophy.
Lionel Messi holding 2022 FIFA World Cup "replica" trophy
Lionel Messi won the 2922 FIFA World Player of the Year accolade the previous month after a thrilling penalty shootout triumph over France in Qatar. The Paris Saint-Germain ace posted many photographs from the festivities on the Lusail Stadium field, which swiftly surpassed an egg to reach Instagram’s most-liked post later that evening.
It has now been revealed that the trophy Lionel Messi and his companions were displaying was a forgery. The actual cup was retrieved by FIFA soon after the trophy lift, as it is a customary procedure. Argentina’s players were too preoccupied with jubilation to realize the fake 2022 FIFA World Cup trophy. Angel Di Maria was the first to notice that it wasn’t authentic.
Di Maria then notified Messi, who was responsible for heading the festivities as captain. An Argentine pair called Manuel and Paula created the trophy. Both desired the trophy to be autographed by the Argentina team when they were in the Middle East. They informed El Pais via Sport Bible: “The idea was that the players could sign it, but in the end, the cup entered the field of play three times. The first one was taken by a relative of (Leandro) Paredes’ relative, and he signed it,”.
Messi carried a false trophy around the pitch, believing it was real until Angel Di Maria brought it up. Messi stated: “The security people told me: ‘Please don’t give the cup to anyone.’ I told them: ‘But there’s another cup over there,’ and they replied: ‘No, no, the one you have is the real one, that’s why we’re with you.’ That’s what I was telling Messi.”

Lionel Messi’s PSG teammates presented him with a guard of honor
Lionel Messi rejoined the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coaching on Tuesday after helping Argentina clinch the World Cup. Messi, who was granted a 10-day sabbatical by the team after his heroics in Qatar, has rejoined his teammates ahead of Friday’s Coupe de France match versus Chateauroux. Argentina overcame Kylian Mbappe‘s France on penalties in the final at Lusail Stadium after a 3-3 deadlock in extra time.
When Messi arrived at PSG’s training facility, his colleagues greeted him with a guard of honor and were also handed a special memento by PSG’s advisor, Lluis Campos. PSG released the footage on their official Twitter account. Messi, his wife Antonella, and their children boarded a private plane for Paris late Monday after spending the previous month in Rosario, Argentina, relishing his country’s World Cup triumph.
He should be eligible for PSG’s Coupe de France match against Chateauroux on Friday, where he will reunite with French Kylian Mbappe, who concluded on the losing side after netting a hat-trick in the World Cup final, as Argentina triumphed on penalties after a 3-3 tie. Argentina’s World Cup victory in December was their third and first after late superstar Diego Maradona guided them to success in 1986.
