Morocco’s defeat against France was one hell of heartbreak for the Atlas Lions players, but the players seem to have coped with the situation better than the Moroccan fans. Several reports of violence from Brussels- Belgium, to Montpellier in France, have been surfacing the internet since the African nation’s defeat in the Semifinals. Videos and images also show clashes between fans and riot control forces.
Fans set ablaze garbage boxes and other cardboard objects to respond with water cannons and tear gas. They threw fireworks and other things at the police dressed in riot gear near Brussels South Nation. As per reports provided by the police and authorities, the forces have detained several individuals and said that the clashes were brief and did not cause severe damage.
But in France, according to The National News reports, a 14-year-old boy has died after being violently run over by a car in the area of violence. The boy was pronounced dead shortly after getting admitted to a hospital in the city. “A young boy was violently hit Wednesday night by a reckless driver,” “My thoughts go out to his family and loved ones,” Said City of Montpellier official Hugues Moutouh about the incident.
The French media said the boy was hit by a car after someone tried to steal a French flag from the driver, who led the vehicle out of control, swerving around in the crowd’s direction. French President Emmanuel Macron is yet to speak on the issue, while he addressed and praised the Moroccan team for their exceptional performance throughout the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

France took the early lead around the 5th minute into the fixture with Theo Hernandez. Randal Kolo Muani cemented a 2-0 victory in the 79th minute against an excellent Morocco side at Al Bayt Stadium. It sent the Frenchmen to their consecutive world cup final. Argentina, who won the last edition of Copa America, will lock horns with France on December 18th in the clash of champions.
Since the start of the competition, Morocco has played like it’s their last chance ever at the World Cup, defeating European giants like Belgium, Spain, and Portugal on their way to Glory. But were only held behind by the Frenchmen. Morocco had a heartbreak, but their journey at this competition is worth applauding. Even the French President was impressed that he met the team in person after the match ended.
