In light of the recent events of Racism against Brazil international Vinicius Jr, a new law detailing a chain of measures to be implemented in the event of racism at sporting events in Brazil. The law was voted through by the Rio de Janeiro State Assembly. And it would be ratified by the Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Claudio Castro.
The racial abuse of Vinicius Junior in La Liga this summer caused uproars in his homeland Brazil in recent months. And it is now set to have an impact on legislation. This law reportedly detailed that as soon as there was any racism detected, the event would be suspended and potentially indefinitely.
It also included a protocol for combating racism and intended to make it easier for victims to report racism to the authorities. Those hosting sporting events would also be forced to run anti-racism campaigns during breaks. The idea was to expel racism from sporting events.
Vinicius had also been awarded the ‘Medal of Tiradentes’. It’s the highest honor available to the legislative chamber, for his work in calling out racism. In Brazil, the case has caused just as much reaction in Spain, with the Latin American country up in arms at Vinicius’ treatment. The Real Madrid winger has suffered racial abuse on at least 10 occasions this season. And the maximum punishment that has been handed out is a €60k fine. The punishment also included a two-year ban from sporting events.

Real Madrid has completed the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder
Real Madrid completed the signing of Borussia Dortmund Jude Bellingham. The 19-year-old English superstar had been linked with Los Blancos, and it appears a deal was reached between the German giants and their Spanish counterparts.
Bellingham is seen as the long-term successor to Luka Modric at the club. He seems to be the final piece in a midfield transition away from the Casemiro, Toni Kroos, and Modric trio who dominated European football for the last decade. The latter two are expected to remain at the club next season. And with Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni, Fede Valverde, and Eduardo Camavinga all at the club already, Los Blancos will be well covered for the future.
The German side would sell Bellingham to Los Blancos for €103m plus up to 30% of the deal in variables. The total cost of the deal could thus rise to around €134m should they be fulfilled. Although it’s not yet known how achievable those variables were. If it followed recent trends, some of that money would likely be linked to Champions League victories or Ballon d’Or wins.
As per reports, the deal’s set to cost Madrid a minimum of €163m over the six years of his contract. And it could go as high as of around € 204 million if those variables are achieved.
Bellingham is seen as a long-term star in Real Madrid’s midfield, eventually taking the mantle from Luka Modric as the difference-maker for Los Blancos. If he reaches his potential, there is little doubt that he will turn out to be a good business. At just 19, he could well stay at the club for a decade and still leave for a major fee. Los Blancos appear keen to avoid a similar case to that of Eden Hazard once again and thus are targeting younger star signings to protect against a loss of value with age.
