Angel Di Maria gets a tattoo of the FIFA World Cup trophy on his leg after Argentina’s triumph

Angel Di Maria displayed a brand-new tattoo honouring Argentina’s victory in the World Cup final. Last Sunday, the winger played for La Albiceleste against France and excelled for his nation. After winning the penalty that Lionel Messi successfully converted to give them the lead, the former Manchester United player scored once to round off a fantastic team effort.

He was replaced in the second half, and France then staged an incredible comeback to force a sudden-death shootout. Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez then stepped up to perform a mindgame masterclass in order to help his side win the World Cup. Since 1986, the South Americans have not won football’s most prestigious prize and Di Maria recently got a massive new tattoo to honour his nation’s illustrious accomplishment.

The tattoo which covers his entire right thigh was unveiled by him on Instagram. The World Cup trophy is depicted in the tattoo and the three stars above it stand for their three tournament triumphs. A peek of the Lusail Stadium, the venue of the final last week can be seen behind the trophy. Last but not least, there is the ‘Sun of May,’ a well-known design featured on Argentina’s flag.

The tattoo was designed and created by artist Ezequiel Viapiano, and Di Maria shared the first image of it on Instagram on Saturday. Di Maria expressed his satisfaction with the final result as he expressed gratitude to Viapiano for designing the tattoo. “On the skin for all eternity. Thank you very much friend. You said it when we made Copa America, the other leg was being saved for this moment. It was written. COME ON ARGENTINA,” he wrote as the caption.

Former Manchester United player praised Argentina’s Angel Di Maria for his final display

Former Manchester United captain and Skysports pundit Gary Neville lauded Di Maria for his all-around performance and awarded Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni credit for starting him. “Di Maria position, selection, well done to the manager it’s a genius selection, it’s stretched that French team. Mac Allister has been that pocket, they’ve not been able to cope with it, Messi has come to the right hand side,” he told ITV of the penalty Di Maria won.

“The penalty, I have to say, Dembele although he’s a wide player, what he does, this initial challenge… you know what Di Maria’s going to do he’s been doing it for 10 years. It’s embarrassing. I’m torn between one, I think it’s a soft penalty but also stupidity and to get on the wrong side, you deserve to be found out. Dembele gets found out, he’s looking for it, he knows what he’s doing but Dembele gets played like a little boy”

He also applauded other members of the team for playing their role perfectly: “What De Paul’s doing on this side to Mbappe protecting Molina, Mac Allister and Di Maria on the other side is absolutely destroying them. Messi and Alvarez perfect up front, they are taking them apart.”
