“He has the same mentality as Ronaldo,” Arsenal legend draws parallels between Olivier Giroud and Cristiano Ronaldo
Former Arsenal player praises France's Oliver Giroud after breaking Thierry Henry all-time goal scored record for the national team.

Oliver Giroud had an amazing World Cup campaign scoring 4 goals as France could not pass their final hurdle against Lionel Messi-led Argentina losing 4-2 on penalties after a stellar 3-3 game in the finals. However, Giroud was substituted before half-time when France were 2-0 down. Giroud also broke Thierry Henry’s record and became France’s all-time leading scorer during the World Cup.
Giroud has always had his doubters though even after playing for big European clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea and AC Milan. His accolades at the club level include winning an unlikely Ligue 1 title with Montpellier, three FA cups and community shield with Arsenal, the FA cup, Europa League and Champions League with Chelsea and his latest triumph with AC Milan winning the Scudetto.
Despite his critics over the years, former Arsenal & Chelsea player Emmanuel Petit has always supported Giroud and regarded him as a player everyone loves in the dressing room. In his opinion, Giroud has proven his “disrespectful” doubters wrong via perseverance and a strong work ethic.
Petit said in a statement to Mega Casino: “For Giroud, nothing has been given to him. Everything that he has achieved in his career is because of his work, his mental strength and his resilience. Every time you try to show him the door, he will go to the window. If you show him the window, he will come back to the garage, he will always find a way to come back and to prove you wrong.”
“For me, [Kylian] Mbappe, [Lionel] Messi, Ronaldo, they are amazing players and a big example for everyone, but being a sportsman is not all about having extraordinary ability, being a sportsman is about showing different qualities as well, qualities Giroud has in abundance. When you speak to people about Giroud, even his friends, they all say the same thing about him – he will surprise you. He keeps going and going and going.” he added.
He also compared France’s all-time leading top scorer with Cristiano Ronaldo

The 1998 World Cup final goalscorer continued his praise by comparing the former Arsenal player against Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as not being enough “romantic” on the pitch but he also added that he has the same work ethic as the former Manchester United star.
“Can you imagine if Giroud had the quality of Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo? I think he has the same mentality as Ronaldo – Giroud is so strong in his mind – he is almost like a robot because he has so much belief and determination. You have to show respect to Giroud. If that’s not enough to convince you that he doesn’t deserve all the success he has had, then I have nothing to say to you,” Petit praises France’s all-time leading top scorer.
