Barcelona eyeing key Chelsea player as replacement of Sergio Busquets in January: Reports
Sergio Busquets and N'golo Kante
Sergio Busquets’ departure from Barcelona at the end of the current campaign is becoming more and more inevitable, thus the club is searching for a replacement. Despite recent rumors surrounding Ruben Neves, Albert Roge and Toni Juanmarti of Relevo report that N’Golo Kante is preferred by the Catalans ahead of him for two reasons.
First off, N’Golo Kante’s profile is preferred in the technical area since he is a more dynamic pivot than Busquets. He may participate in the build-up and cover a lot of the field. Second, the 31-year-old would be offered for free or at a reduced cost in the summer of 2023. N’Golo has no intention of keeping his current contract with Chelsea open.
Neves, however, would run for about €25 million. The original plan was to hold off until the following summer. However, it would be simpler for Barcelona to sign Kante this winter due to Financial Fair Play regulations. Following the 2022 World Cup, they will decide.
On November 6, 2021, Xavi was named Barcelona’s manager. That indicates he has not yet finished a full calendar year in charge. Before deciding if Xavi is the perfect candidate for the job or not, Barcelona must give him some time on the job.

Barcelona have identified a replacement for their veteran midfielder
As a substitute for the Spaniard, N’Golo Kante of Chelsea is reportedly a target for Barcelona’s sports administration. Kante just had hamstring surgery, which disqualified him from the Qatar-hosted FIFA World Cup in 2022.
According to a previous ESPN story, Barcelona has stepped up its search for a midfielder to take Sergio Busquets’ spot and sign a new player in January.
In the event that Frenkie de Jong moved to the Premier League, Barca looked into deals for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ruben Neves.
But a few months later, as they begin to prepare for life without club captain Busquets, Barcelona discovers that they are once more in need of a deep-lying midfielder. Busquets has drawn criticism for mistakes he made in their most recent defeats to Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich. He will be without a contract at the end of the current season.
The Catalan team has been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League and will now play in the Europa League following Inter Milan‘s victory over Viktoria Plzen.
