Barcelona has confirmed that there will be no mosaic at the Spotify Camp Nou in El Clasico. This would reportedly put an end to an uninterrupted 31-season tradition.
It was on March 7, 1992, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid drew 1-1 at Camp Nou. It was on that day in March that the very first fan mosaic was seen at the stadium. The word ‘Barça’ was spelled out by more than 20,000 fans at the North Goal end of the ground. The idea for the very first mosaic came from the Almogàvers supporters’ group. In the years that followed, other groups from the ‘Grada Jove’ became involved.
In particular, Jordi Sant, Barça member and founder of the Almogàvers, took his inspiration from the ‘Tifosi’ in Italian football who had made the idea popular among fans. Nevertheless, Barça was the first club in Europe to take the mosaic idea to another level about size.
Since then, it has been a regular tradition for Barcelona to have a mosaic in their famous Camp Nou stadium. Especially for the games which are important to them. One such match is “El Classico”. A match between Fc Barcelona and arch-rival Real Madrid. The club has successfully put up mosaics in each of the last 31 seasons.
But it is reportedly confirmed by the club that this long-followed tradition of the club is coming to an end. The Classico that is supposed to take place on March 19, 2023, is not going to feature a special mosaic from the club’s ends. Although the club reportedly hasn’t given out any specific reasons, the fans seem to be very upset with this decision. With many questioning the reason behind such a decision, it’s to be seen if Camp Nou’s atmosphere remains unchanged tonight. Or will this decision have an impact on the morale of the fans?

Tension seems to rise between Barcelona and Real Madrid as Florentino Perez refuses to visit Camp Nou

The Nigreira case has had some bad effects on the relations between FC Barcelona and the other clubs of La Liga. According to El Mundo, Real has decided to appear as a private accusation in the Negreira case. Things seemed to have taken a toll between Barcelona and Real Madrid. Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez has reportedly canceled the customary dinner with Joan Laporta, which was scheduled after tonight’s El Clasico.
Earlier this month, Barcelona Chief Joan Laporta subsequently also refused to have his usual lunch invitation to his Madrid counterparts ahead of El Clasico. And Perez will not travel to the Nou Camp as Real expects a very hostile reception and consider it a risk that is not worth taking.
Perez didn’t even miss Luis Figo’s first game back at the Nou Camp after he had quit Barcelona to join Real in 2000 or the first El Clasico after the pandemic. But he is set to stay in the Spanish capital on Sunday.
These all seem to be indications that Real Madrid and Barcelona have been a bit falling apart in recent times. And Real Madrid changing stances and going against Barcelona in the Negreira case has just made the gaps bigger between the two clubs.
