Inter defeated Barcelona 1-0 in the Champions League thanks to a spectacular goal by Hakan Calhanoglu, moving them into second place in Group C. In the extra time of the first half on Tuesday at San Siro, Calhanoglu beat Marc-Andre ter Stegen after the Nerazzurri had already had a goal disallowed.

The second half saw the LaLiga leaders get better, and they had a goal of their own disallowed when Pedri’s tap-in was disallowed for an Ansu Fati handball. However, under pressure Simone Inzaghi’s team managed to hold on to collect three points, moving them ahead of the Catalan heavyweights despite some late pressure and a Barca penalty appeal.

Real Madrid had won 3-2 against Barcelona in last season’s thrilling Spanish Super Cup semi-final. Barca came from behind twice to level the scores but Federico Valverde’s goal in the first period of extra time settled the game but the star of the show was then 17-year-old Gavi.

Gavi battled Kroos in the heart of midfield and managed to leave the World Cup winner floored in one passage of play. The 17-year-old posted an image of it to his story with no caption, just himself darting away from Kroos. It did not stay up for long however and it has now been deleted, probably because Xavi’s side ended up losing.

Following its second defeat in the competition, which occurred after a crucial handball decisions went against his squad, Barcelona is now third in Group C, six points behind group leader Bayern Munich.

“If you ask me I’m outraged… the word is outrage because it makes no sense, it’s an injustice,” Xavi told reporters. “I think it’s an injustice, I just can’t hide it. I think the referee should explain himself. He should come here and explain but he has just gone home,” Xavi said.
