Brentford manager Thomas Frank heaped praise for Manchester City star Phil Foden, claiming that the forward is England’s best chance of winning a Ballon d’Or. These comments came ahead of the club’s match against the Citizens, at the Etihad Stadium.
The English forward has been in good form this season, scoring 15 goals and assisting 10 more in all competitions for Manchester City. The last time City faced off against Brentford, Foden scored a brilliant hat-trick, which helped his side clinch a crucial 3-1 victory at the Gtech Community Stadium. This match marks the second meeting between the teams within a month, as it was rescheduled from December due to City’s participation in the Club World Cup.
Bees manager Thomas Frank showed appreciation for the England international, in a press meet ahead of their match against the Citizens. He emphasized Foden’s significant impact on the game, praising his exceptional abilities. Frank also added that he possesses the potential to become England’s future Ballon d’Or contender. Moreover, he also commended Foden’s dribbling and play-making skills, while also admiring his positive mindset.
For me, I think he's the closest England get to a potential Ballon d'Or winner! He influences the game in so many ways. He is very at good dribbling, very good at sliding people in. He works very hard. He seems to have a good mentality in terms of working hard.
No English player has won a Ballon d’Or, since Micheal Owen achieved the feat in 2001. Phil Foden placed joint 22nd in 2022 and 25th in 2021 among Ballon d’Or nominees. Thomas Frank, however, overlooked Jude Bellingham, who is seen as a strong contender for this year’s award.
Thomas Frank claims that Christian Eriksen is the biggest signing in Brentford’s history
Brentford manager Thomas Frank recently asserted that Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen was the biggest signing that the Bees ever made. He signed for Brentford in January 2022, six months after suffering a massive cardiac arrest during the 2020 Euros for Denmark.
The Danish midfielder opted to join the Bees on a six-month contract after he was forced to leave Inter Milan due to Serie A regulations regarding cardiac devices. Thomas Frank’s fondness for Eriksen originates from their time together in the Denmark Under-17 national team. Their bond convinced Eriksen to join Brentford, a significant moment for Frank. Eriksen subsequently moved to the Red Devils, in the summer of 2022.
