Brentford manager Thomas Frank has accused Nottingham Forest groundsman of injuring his team’s goalkeeping coach at the City Ground before their match in the Premier League on Saturday. Frank has confirmed that his coach had suffered a visible injury from the dual with the groundsman which arose due to a disagreement during warm-up.
The incident occurred when the Brentford players came out to warm up before and when goalkeeping coach Manuel Sotelo was organizing some pre-match drills with his players, there was a dispute between him and one of Forest’s groundsmen who had come into the penalty area during the drills.
It was later investigated by Forrest staff members and both Sotelo and the groundsman were pictured together, and Sotelo tried to shove away the groundsman who was carrying a long digging fork away from his Brentford players. Although Frank has raised serious allegations against Forrest, their manager Steve Cooper has decided not to comment on this incident.
What did Thomas Frank have to say about the incident?
Thomas Frank accused the groundsman saying, “Yes, he got a mark. Something gave him a mark and I have even got a picture. I have a bit of a temper so I am not an angel all of the time and I try to be the best version but my goalkeeping coach is the most down-to-earth guy, there must be something really pissed him off. I just hope everyone is looking into it. There must be cameras.”
He added, “But in all my time in football and, especially all my time in the Premier League, I have never seen a groundsman walking around in the middle of our warm-up doing things. I don’t know if that is a coincidence, but it just surprised me very much.” The match ended 2-2 and points were shared following a late own goal from Brentford’s Mathias Jorgensen.
