BTS member Jungkook to headline at 2022 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Qatar

Jungkook, the youngest member of BTS, will take part in the FIFA World Cup 2022 opening ceremony in Qatar on November 20. The news was released on Saturday by BigHit’s official account, which also revealed that Jungkook will contribute to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Soundtrack.

“Proud to announce that Jung Kook is part of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Soundtrack & will perform at the World Cup opening ceremony. Stay tuned!” tweeted the official handle of BTS. Now that the band is on break following the announcement of Jin’s military enlistment, many of BTS’ band members are working on solo projects.

In addition to Jin’s solo track with Coldplay, The Astronaut, and J-Hope’s album Jack in the Box, RM recently revealed Indigo, his debut solo album. Charlie Puth and Jungkook worked together on the song Left and Right a few months ago. The forthcoming ceremony is also scheduled to feature performances from Shakira, Dua Lipa, J Balvin, Kizz Daniel, Calvin Harris, Nora Fatehi, and Trinidad Cardona, among others.

The FIFA World Cup soundtracks have developed a unique significance in popular culture throughout the years. Some of the FIFA anthems are still well-known worldwide, including We Are the Champions by Queen, Waka Waka by Shakira, and We Are One (Ole Ola) by Pitbull.

With millions of fans across the world, BTS is one of the most followed and supported musical acts in the world. Fans of the musical group called themselves BTS Army. It is not yet known whether Jungkook’s other bandmates Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, and V will be present in Doha for the opening ceremony or if they will be featured on the official soundtrack for the tournament either.

Jungkook recently was featured on the hit single “Left and Right” by the American singer-songwriter Charlie Puth. The song peaked at number 22 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The artist made his way to Doha, Qatar in the last week of October where he was greeted at the airport by fans and authorities.
