Cadiz fans yell racist slogans and throw objects at Real Madrid’s Antonio Rudiger calling him ‘son of a b*tch’
This is the second time racist abuse has been reported this season for a Madrid player.
Antonio Rudiger faced one of the most hostile receptions after Real Madrid’s clash against Cadiz which they won 2-0. Madrid dominated the match and the scoreline would have been totally different if not for the heroic saves by the Cadiz keeper David Gil. After the match, frustrations were vented out after the German defender was targeted for racial abuse.
Rudiger went to give his shirt to a fan but was greeted by objects and abuse by the opposition fans. The players also took advantage to avenge the defeat which saw them further slip into the bottom half and on verge of relegation. Such scenes have become common in Spanish football. His teammate Vinicius Junior faced the same fate during the clash with their Madrid rivals.
He faced a similar fate during his stint at Chelsea. Rüdiger indicates he had been targeted by a monkey chant during Chelsea’s win against Spurs. He has revealed he suffered “immense” racist abuse on social media following the sacking of Frank Lampard during his tenure. However, all charges have gone unpunished.
He faces his former team Chelsea next in the second leg of the Champions League semifinals where they already have a 2-0 advantage in the reverse fixture. Given Chelsea’s disastrous form, Real Madrid is the heavy favorite to qualify for the UCL semifinals.
Antonio Rudiger claims Chelsea is nothing like his Champions League-winning squad
Antonio Rudiger took a dig at the current Chelsea team while comparing them to the side he was part of which won the Champions League in 2021. Rudiger, who moved to Real Madrid after the conclusion of the 2021/22 season, believes that the Chelsea team he played in that won the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel’s tutelage in the 2020/21 season was much better than the current Blues squad.
The comments from the German came just days before Real Madrid took on Frank Lampard’s Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash at the Santiago Bernabeu where the Madrid outfit won 2-0. Rudiger said, “The Chelsea team I played for is nothing like the current Chelsea team. But what is clear to me is that they have plenty of quality players.”
Both Real Madrid and Chelsea head into this second leg of the Champions League fixture with a win and a loss respectively. The match will be played at Stamford Bridge in England with the Los Blancos having the upper hand winning the reverse fixture 2-0. While Carlo Ancelotti’s side are 12 points behind league leaders Barcelona, the Blues are currently 11th in the Premier League.
