League leaders Arsenal have signed Jorginho from cross-city rivals Chelsea on the Transfer deadline day. The deal was finalized for £12 million, with a one-year contract and the option to extend further. The Italian playmaker will undergo medical in the Arsenal facilities later on Tuesday. Fans took to social media to share their reaction to the news as soon as it was announced.

Negotiations for the player’s fee began on Monday, with both parties wrapping up the deal swiftly. Arsenal, who were looking for an option in the midfield got their answer, while Chelsea were looking to create some space in their congested squad. Jorginho, who was not getting much play time under the Blues’ will surely be a key player for Arteta in the season.

Arsenal had very limited options in the midfield, with Thomas Partey’s possible injury in the FA Cup loss to Manchester City on Friday. As a result, Arsenal manager Arteta quickly looked for options, initially wanting Moises Caicedo from Brighton. However, the two sides could not agree upon a fee. That made Jorginho the next best option for the Gunners. Chelsea and Arsenal have a history of doing business with each other, which made the deal move quickly.

Now 31, the Italian can be dubbed as a shrewd signing by Arteta. Jorginho has impeccable control with unmatched vision. He also has a high percentage of successful blocks in the midfield. This will help Arsenal to turn over possession and bring their lighting-fast wingers into play to devastating effects. The Euro Cup champion has been a key fixture for Chelsea since his move from Napoli back in 2018.

Arsenal took everyone by surprise as they completed the signing of Chelsea player Jorginho earlier today.
