According to The Athletic, Manchester United have insisted that club legend Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale and that he is under contract for another year, but Premier League rivals Chelsea are now ready to bounce on any opportunity for signing the star forward.

Todd Boehly, the new owner of Chelsea, met with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes, and one of the topics they discussed was a move to Chelsea. The US businessman and Mendes are said to have continued talks, with Boehly and fellow director Behdad Eghbali interested in signing an iconic figure.

However, if the Blues are planning a move, manager Thomas Tuchel’s wishes must be taken into account. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ronaldo is discontented with “the level of the playing squad” at Manchester United, which missed out on a Champions League spot last season.

Chelsea are focusing on another attacking target despite contact between club owner Todd Boehly and Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, according to Fabrizio Romano. According to an earlier report from The Athletic, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly would be more interested in signing the Portugal international than Tuchel.

Chelsea’s primary target doesn’t seem to be Cristiano Ronaldo at the moment

While Chelsea could undoubtedly use a reliable goalscorer like Ronaldo, who scored 18 league goals last season, it’s easy to see why they’d focus on Sterling, as Romano suggested. Tuchel appears to prefer more versatile forwards, as evidenced by Kai Havertz being ahead of Romelu Lukaku in the club’s striker pecking order last season.

Sterling, who is in the final year of his Manchester City contract, is also younger and, in some ways, a more realistic target than Ronaldo. The England international is still a prolific goalscorer, with 13 league goals last season, and could provide Tuchel with more tactical options.
