Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp opened up about the recent racial abuse against Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. The Brazilian winger has been a victim of racial abuse in his recent matches in Spain, and allegedly targeted by the opponents. Jurgen Klopp condemned the racial abuse, stating that it was ‘ridiculous’ to even try to justify that.
Vinicius Jr. was accused of provoking opposing fans and players by his tricks and celebrations. However, Klopp ridiculed the idea, saying it was no reason for the fans to treat Vinicius Jr that way. “That he is doing something on the pitch that could cause it? There is nothing in the world that could justify that. Imagine if I say yes, that would be completely ridiculous.”
The Brazilian star faced racial abuse in Real Madrid’s league matches against Atletico Madrid, Valladolid and Mallorca recently. Valladolid have already taken action against some fans, as they suspended 12 season ticket holders, as the investigation has been going on for the racial abuse on Vinicius Jr. An effigy was also found hanging outside Real Madrid’s training facility wearing Vinicius Jr’s jersey last month.

Jurgen Klopp recognizes the threat that Real Madrid pose against Liverpool
Liverpool faces Real Madrid in their upcoming UEFA Champions League Round-of-16 match on February 22. Jurgen Klopp recognized Vinicius Jr. as a severe threat, recalling last year’s Champions League final, where the 22-year-old scored the winning goal against Liverpool in May 2022. Vinicius Jr. has 3 goals in 3 games against Klopp’s Liverpool.
“He is a world class player and you should not leave him a lot or alone in one vs. one situations,” Klopp said. “He was in that night [Champions League final] at a young age. But he scored in the decisive moment and I am pretty sure that makes him already a Real Madrid legend.” Jurgen Klopp also recognized the other players of Real Madrid, claiming that they are ‘world-class’ players and pose serious threats against Liverpool.
“You try to deny passes to him, but the problem we have is if you can defend and we need to, there is also Karim Benzema and then there is Fede Valverde or whoever. And if you can defend all three then Toni Kroos can fire the ball from 25 yards in the top corner. That is the thing with world-class teams they have world-class players and you have to defend them properly and we will try.” Klopp addressed the threats ahead of the crucial Round of 16 clash.
