Cristiano Ronaldo gets green signal from authorities to construct pergola on £6.5m disputed penthouse
The Portuguese was previously commanded to destroy a rooftop gazebo.
The construction of a pergola on the roof of Cristiano Ronaldo’s £6.5 million Portuguese penthouse has been approved. The Lisbon City Council commanded the Al Nassr star to demolish the “eyesore” rooftop gazebo. He is now replacing it. After discovering it had been constructed without a permit, he was forced to take down the contentious glass building. The expansive penthouse Ronaldo purchased in the heart of Lisbon was previously the nation’s most expensive home ever sold.
But, the unprecedented argument over the gazebo, which resulted in José Mateus, the block’s architect, threatening to sue the celebrity, has overshadowed his purchase. Mr Mateus was furious that Ronaldo had erected the gazebo on the roof, exceeding the building’s permitted height. Mr Mateus slammed Ronaldo for “scoring an own goal” and “dishonouring his work” in a furious rant.
Cristiano’s sister, Elma Aveiro, joined the argument and attacked critics who “think they can tell us what to do in our own houses.” His other sister, Katia Aveiro, a former singer who currently resides in Brazil, was angry too: “Do us Portuguese deserve you?”
It’s believed that the gazebo was built in place of the pool and lounge area depicted on design models before the property was sold. Lisbon City Hall began investigations regarding this in May, appearing to confirm the illegality of the gazebo.

Piers Morgan wins prestigious British Sports journalism award for Cristiano Ronaldo’s controversial interview
Piers Morgan’s world-exclusive interview with Cristiano Ronaldo on TalkTV in late 2022 earned him the Scoop of the Year award. At the British Sports Journalism Awards presentation. Piers said, “I want to say a huge thank you to Cristiano; without him, I wouldn’t be here, and there would be no scoop, so thank you.”
In the viral social media interview, Cristiano Ronaldo attacked his colleagues, the Glazer owners, the club’s facilities, and his manager Erik ten Hag. “I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me; if you don’t have respect for me, I’m never going have respect for you,” he said when talking about the Manchester United manager. This came after the player left the stadium in the middle of a game not once but twice this season.
“Yes. Not only the coach but the other two or three guys around the club. I felt betrayed,” the 37-year-old said. “People should hear the truth. Yes, I feel betrayed. Some people don’t want me here not only this year but last year too,” he continued. In the summer transfer window, Jorge Mendes made the player available to teams like Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, PSG, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund. Still, none of them was interested in signing the Portuguese. Ronaldo sacked Mendes after the interview with Piers Morgan caused a rift in his relationship with his superagent.
