Cristiano Ronaldo skips Manchester United training for the second successive day as his future at the club continues to be ambiguous
The Athletic has learned that Cristiano Ronaldo won’t be attending Manchester United‘s practice for the second day in a row. Ronaldo was not there when United’s international players were expected to report at Carrington on Monday owing to “family circumstances.”
Portugal international’s homecoming date is now unknown, as United is due to fly off on Friday for a tour of Thailand and Australia. Ronaldo, 37, reportedly told The Athletic over the weekend that if United receives a good offer this window, he would prefer to go.
Todd Boehly, a co-owner of Chelsea, met with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes to talk about the situation and the possibility of a transfer to Chelsea. His condition is also said to have been disclosed to Bayern Munich, while Napoli is said to be interested.
Cristiano Ronaldo still hasn’t returned to Manchester United training:
It is thought that Ronaldo is not up for sale this summer in the eyes of United. The deal Ronaldo signed when he returned to United from Juventus last summer has 12 months left on it. Additionally, his contract contains an option for an additional year.
He was United’s leading scorer last season with 24 goals across all competitions, however, he was unable to aid in their Champions League qualification. The ambition to compete for titles and the lack of Champions League football the next season are said to be two factors in his decision to quit.
A condition in every United player’s contract calls for a wage drop of 25% as a general rule, and Ronaldo is said to have been worried about the lack of development on and off the field.
Erik ten Hag is trying to grow his army in the interim. Tyrell Malacia, a left-back for Feyenoord, has been finishing up his physical, while Christian Eriksen has agreed to join the team, The Athletic reported on Monday.
