It all began when Vinicius Jr. was told by Atletico Madrid’s captain Koke that there would be trouble if he celebrated in such a way at the Wanda Metropolitano. This sparked a fierce argument between the players and the fans. Vinicius Jr. received support and love from many players, including Neymar Jr, Raphinha and Pele. When Real Madrid scored in the derby game, Vinicius Jr. broke out into his signature dance moves.

In a heated local derby on Sunday at the Wanda Metropolitano, Real Madrid defeated crosstown rivals Atletico 2-1 to reclaim a two-point lead over Barcelona and maintain an undefeated record in LaLiga.

Carlo Ancelotti‘s team was merciless in front of goal as goals from Federico Valverde and Rodrygo gave them a commanding lead despite playing second best for significant portions of the first half and lacking talisman Karim Benzema. Despite a late goal by the hosts, Mario Hermoso, they were unable to tie the score.

The visitors lost ground in the first few minutes of the first half, but they seized the lead just before the 20-minute mark when Rodrygo finished expertly past Jan Oblak following Aurelien Tchouameni’s chip over the Atleti back line. Vinicius, who has previously faced racial taunts in Spain, tweeted a photo of himself and Selecao teammate Rodrygo celebrating after the game with the message, “Dance wherever you want.”

When a corner kick got a lucky bounce from Mario Hermoso and found the back of Thibaut Courtois’ goal late in the second half, the hosts, who had been fighting to come back into the game, managed to halve the deficit. Atleti was unable to get an equaliser, and Carlo Ancelotti’s team hung on to the victory to earn a crucial three points early in the defence of their LaLiga crown.
