Dani Alves might have to pay out £4 million in damages to former club after being charged with s**ual assault
Dani Alves has reportedly changed his testimony since claiming he does not know the woman

Former Brazilian right-back Dani Alves might have to pay £4 million to his previous club, UNAM Pumas, according to their contract, reported UOL Sport. The Mexican club terminated its contract after the player was detained under sexual harassment allegations.
Dani Alves is currently in prison in Spain. He is being investigated for sexual assault on a 23–year-old woman on December 31 in Barcelona’s famous Sutton nightclub.
According to the reports, the club has sent a mail to the player asking him to pay the money as it is in direct breach of the club’s contract agreement. An excerpt of the mail, leaked since the news broke, reads, “Due to the player’s very serious breaches, he is obliged to reimburse the club with the payment of the indemnity provided in the amount of $5m (£4.1m).”
The 39-year–old was playing for Mexican side UNAM Pumas when the incident took place. The club terminated his contract immediately after news of his allegations surfaced on the internet. The club said, “With the information that occurred today about the legal process that the player Dani Alves is facing, and for which he is detained in Spain, we have determined to communicate the following: the Club Universidad Nacional has made the decision to terminate the employment contract with Dani Alves from this day on.”

More Muddy waters expected for Dani Alves on his journey ahead

A bonafide Barcelona legend, Alves has received widespread backlash after the news broke. Apart from his club, his former friends have also criticized his actions. Former teammate and present Barcelona coach, Xavi, said, “It is difficult to comment on a situation like this. I am surprised, shocked, and in a state of ‘shock’. It is a matter of justice. Justice will rule whatever it is. As for Dani, I feel very bad for him. Shocked. I can’t say more.”
His wife and public figure, Joana Sanz have come out to condemn her husband’s actions. She said, “I have lost the only two pillars of my life. Have a little empathy; instead of looking for news in other people’s pain, thank you.”
According to a recent ruling on the matter, Alves cannot leave Spain during the tenure of the investigation. He will also have to stay within 500 meters of the victim’s residence at all times and will have to wear a tracker on his ankle 24 hours a day. The court of law has deemed Alves to be a flight risk and has found concrete evidence of his involvement in the event.
The former Barca player has changed his version of the story multiple times since his first claims that he doesn’t even know the woman. Recently, he has testified that he wanted to protect his wife from the truth and that is why he lied initially. He also claimed that he had consensual sex with the woman and it was not rape. However, the victim claimed, “I resisted, but he was much stronger than me.”
