“Do concussion protocols even exist?” – Twitter reacts as Iran’s goalkeeper tries to continue playing with bloody nose after eventually leaving against England

Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand and teammate Majid Hosseini were involved in a violent head-to-head collision, which resulted in a prolonged early delay in England’s opening World Cup game. The two Iranian players collided with each other in the eighth minute of the game while attempting to clear a Harry Kane cross, and the lengthy checks caused a 10-minute wait.

Strangely, both men kept playing until the 18th minute, when Beiranvand once again fell unconscious and had to be replaced. The play continued for around 30 seconds when he realized he had to go. He was taken off on a stretcher with hands on his head. He was replaced by deputy goalkeeper Hossein Hosseini.
